The desire to buy a classic car has never faded in the hearts of many people. There are plenty of potential suitors if one becomes available, even though they are expensive to purchase and maintain in good condition. You must first register it, regardless of whether you are purchasing it for your collection or to drive to work. You should be fully informed about classic car registration so that you can own your desired one.
Do you know how to register a classic car in the UAE? In the United Arab Emirates, the process for registering classic cars is the same in each emirate, but not in Abu Dhabi. Read on to find out more in detail.
Required Documents For Classic Car Registration
• Car insurance in Dubai and the UAE (motor insurance in Dubai and other emirates is a must)
• Passport or Emirates ID
• Driving license (original and registered in the UAE)
• Additional documents, such as registration records from earlier applications.
• Vehicle's customs certificate
• Original invoices and other purchase documentation from the car's manufacturer.
Registration in Dubai
A car must be 30 years old to be considered a classic vehicle. Additionally, the RTA (Roads and Transport Authority) and Automobile Touring Club UAE have established safety regulations that must always be obeyed.
Complete Category Assignment
A classic car is tested in two different ways: visually and by verifying safety. The following categories have been awarded to the classic cars once these two criteria were checked:
Category A: Permitted to travel about 10,000 kilometers per year, relevant to all UAE roadways. This category includes vehicles manufactured in 1950 and later.
Category B: Cars produced before 1950 are allowed to travel up to 5,000 kilometers across the nation each year.
Category C: These vehicles are not permitted on several routes in Dubai since they have a 60 km posted speed restriction.
Category D: These vehicles are not suitable for nighttime driving, mostly because their equipment, such as headlights, is not adequate to illuminate dimly lit places. But you can drive these vehicles during the day.
Category E: These vehicles can be driven on internal/service roads.
Category F: Vehicles falling under this category are utilized for displaying at a gallery or museum only, and not for driving purposes.
Registration Fees in Sharjah and Dubai
In these regions of the Emirate, registering a vintage vehicle now costs AED 850. The inspection fee of AED 420 and the registration fee of AED 430 are required to be paid. Furthermore, after registration is complete, these vehicles will receive brown number plates.
The Procedure For Classic Car Registration in Abu Dhabi
The registration process for vintage cars is different in Abu Dhabi. So, how does it differ? Let's examine the process in its entirety. Only two categories for classic car registration are available here. In category one, the owner is permitted to drive the car for a year following registration. The AED 400 registration fee for classic cars falls under this group. The renewal costs are roughly AED 350.
The second category includes vehicles that will only be on display at shows and not be used for transportation. Only after undergoing a hard technical test are they given car insurance, which is necessary for such vintage vehicles in Abu Dhabi. The approximate cost of registering a classic car falls into this group at AED 1100. Three years are covered by this amount. The price to renew is AED 1050. Additionally, these vehicles are not permitted to operate on roadways and must be transported by trucks.
RTA Registration Centers
The following vintage car registration facilities are open in the Emirate and are covered by the RTA. The list is as follows:
• Wasel Al Jaddaf
• Barsha Tasjeel
• Tamam Al Kindi
• Al Mutakamilah Vehicles Testing
• Wasel Nad Al Hammar
• AG Cars Vehicle Testing- Al Mamzar
