Sheikh Hamdan has urged Dubai authorities to adopt the best practices from across the globe to make the emirates a bicycle-friendly city.

The new announcement is in line with the Dubai Vision 2021 project, the aim of which is to make Dubai the world’s most preferred place to live, work, and visit.

The announcement complements Dubai Traffic Strategy 2021 and UAE Energy Strategy 2021 as well. Dubai Traffic Strategy aims to significantly reduce road fatalities to an impressive 1.5 person per 100,000 population. UAE Energy Strategy 2021 aims to achieve an impressive 16% cut in the carbon emission footprint

The announcement for the same was made at a Dubai Police event on Thursday.

A suggestion to form a task force was taken during the event. The task force will work on promoting bicycle culture, infrastructure, and develop initiatives to introduce rules and laws to ensure the safety of cyclists.

On the 9th of August 2020, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, was seen cycling with friends and aides, before stopping to pray on the roadside.
