If you believe that the mere fact that you consistently adhere to the speed limit makes you a safe driver, you need to reconsider. Driving too slowly on a highway or in a way that inhibits traffic flow on UAE highways is risky and can result in a steep financial traffic police fine.
Authorities in the United Arab Emirates have ordered sluggish drivers to leave the so-called fast lane on the road. On a highway, drivers often utilize the leftmost lane.
So here in this blog, Let’s find out the rules and regulations of road safety.
In order to prevent slow drivers from becoming a safety problem on the road, minimum speeds are specifically stated on signboards, especially on highways and main roads. You can find out the maximum and lowest speed restrictions by looking for traffic signs and avoiding UAE traffic fines. A circular blue sign may state the minimum speed limit.
According to this traffic sign, the maximum speed restriction for light vehicles is 110 km/h and the maximum speed limit for heavy vehicles is 80 km/h. The road's minimal speed restriction is 60 km/h, according to the blue sign.
The police officials used a vehicle on a route with a 140 km/h speed restriction to demonstrate the regulation. The driver must observe traveling in the left-most lane while exceeding the posted speed limit. The motorist checks his mirrors as a vehicle comes from behind and switches to the right lane.
Reasons Why Fast Lanes Must Remain Open
The fast lane must be maintained clear unless you are passing another vehicle, according to prior instructions from the police authorities. According to the force, it can only be used by emergency vehicles and for overtaking.
To guarantee efficient highway traffic, the Dubai Police advised: "always drive in the right lane."
Rules, Fines, and Penalties.
Not Giving Way to Faster-Moving Vehicles: According to the Dubai police, even if a vehicle is "going within the speed limit," it must give space to the faster vehicle in the left-most lane. Failure to give way to vehicles on the left or from behind is punishable by a Dh400 RTA traffic fine under federal traffic legislation.
Not Giving Priority to Emergency Vehicles: Six penalty points and a Dh1,000 traffic police fine are assessed for this violation. Keep in mind that the fast lane is solely for overtaking and that emergency vehicles are always given the green light.
Avoid Tailgating: Dh400 fine and four violation points are assessed for failing to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you.
Incorrect Over-Taking: Overtaking from the wrong side is prohibited in the United Arab Emirates. Improper overtaking is a moving violation that carries a Dh600 fine and six violation points.
From the Road Shoulder, Overtaking: The road shoulder cannot be used by drivers trying to pass a slower vehicle in the fast lane. This is a serious offense that carries an AED 1,000 fine and six points on your driving record.
Taking the Fast Lane In UAE: In the UAE, there are RTA fines associated with breaking lane-changing regulations. Yet, if you want to find out where you may enjoy driving at the maximum speed without breaking the law, check out this blog on driving quickly in the UAE.
